He Is Awesome

What does it feel like to stand at the edge of the ocean, or look up at a mountain range, and suddenly realize how small you are? Not in a crushing way, but in a freeing way. That is the feeling at the heart of Psalm 139:6, where David declares that God's knowledge of him is too wonderful, too lofty, too strong to fully grasp. This sermon invites us into that same sense of awe. We explore how David, likely a young man hiding in caves and running for his life, looked up at the God of the universe and found not judgment but presence. His mind was not just informed, it was blown. The central question this raises for us is whether we have settled for information about God when what he actually wants to give us is an encounter. There is a difference between knowing facts about someone and truly meeting them. David's words in this psalm were not the product of a scribe collecting data. They were the desperate, wonder-filled response of a person who discovered that God saw him in the dark. That same invitation is extended to us today, wherever we find ourselves, whatever cave we might be hiding in.
