Deposit & Blessing
This message invites us into a profound understanding of what it means to live at the intersection of heaven and earth. Drawing from Ephesians 1 and the post-resurrection appearance of Jesus in John 20, we're challenged to reconsider our view of the Holy Spirit—not as an impersonal force, but as a divine person who marks and guarantees our identity in Christ. The imagery is striking: just as Jesus breathed on His disciples and said 'receive the Holy Spirit,' we too have been sealed with this same Spirit the moment we believed. This seal functions like an ancient mark of authenticity, security, and ownership—God's down payment on promises yet to be fully realized. What makes this particularly relevant is the acknowledgment that we often find ourselves in dangerous intersections, those vulnerable moments when what we see around us seems completely at odds with what we believe about heaven. Yet Paul, writing from a crumbling Ephesus marked by economic decline, moral decay, and social division, could still breathlessly proclaim the spiritual blessings that are ours in Christ. The Holy Spirit doesn't remove us from these intersections; He walks through them with us, integrating our spirit, soul, and body while simultaneously bringing heaven and earth together in our lived experience. This isn't about having everything figured out or feeling victorious every moment—it's about recognizing that even a 1% deposit of the Holy Spirit is enough to guarantee our complete inheritance.
