Adventure is out There

Psalm 56
1 Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack. 2 My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me. 3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4 In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? 5 All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin. 6 They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life. 7 Because of their wickedness do not  let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down. 8 Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll — are they not in your record? 9 Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise—11 in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me? 12 I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

The Psalms are made up of poems and songs of different genres. A lot of them are Psalms of lament, or sadness. The author of Psalm fifty-six is crying out to the Lord to deliver him from his trails. He goes through and asks for mercy but then recognizes the work that God is doing in his life. He declares that he knows that God is his protector and gives his life to Christ. God delivers us from trials and pain either on earth or as he brings justice for his people in the end. He walks with us in everyday and is in every season with us. He brings us strength and wisdom when we call upon him.

Last week I challenged you to live courageously! For me, I was terrified. One thing that was on my list of fears that I knew would take courage, was share with someone how I was really doing. I have a tendency to tell people I am fine even when I am not. A friend asked me how I was doing and I decided to be completely honest with her. It turned out great! We talked about it for awhile, prayed together, and leaving the conversation I felt better. Now sometimes when we are courageous it does not end up great, but that is okay too! This week my challenge is to find a new adventure. We are acknowledging that God is with us in everyday. This week go on an adventure and take God with you!

God we thank you for the courage you brought last week. We thank you for showing up. This week we ask you to be with us as we find adventure. We are seeking new opportunities and new sights and we pray that you come along. God we know that you are always with us, watching and providing, this week we pray that you watch over us as we live out new opportunities. In your sons name, Amen.
