God Brings Peace

John 14: 22- 27:
22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" 23 Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who doesn't love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

This summer the topic I would like to address is fear. This is something I have struggled with my whole life. Fear is so difficult to balance with living a full life. In the Bible God calls us to be courageous and live without fear. Realistically we cannot live without fear completely, and stay alive. God is calling us to not be held back by fear. We are called to live a life for Christ fearlessly and fiercely. This is not a request for recklessly living, but knowing that God will provide and show up when we are living for him. In John chapter fourteen, verse twenty seven,  it says “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” In this chapter, Jesus is speaking to the disciples and he was telling him that those that love him and follow him will be taken care of by the Lord. He then leaves them with the verse above as he tells them to not be afraid. This is instruction to continue to follow his commands without hesitation and without fear.

Your challenge for this week is to look at your life and take note of what brings you peace. It maybe be taking a walk, listening to music, hanging out with friends or family or maybe sitting somewhere in nature. Find something that brings you peace and then do that this week. Push toward what God is calling you to do, live for him and live in peace.

God thank you for this reminder today. Thank you for the peace that you bring to our lives. This week help us live for you and to live in peace. God, we want to pursue you and live out your will. Lord remind us what peace and rest feels like, not the kind of rest that comes with watching Netflix for hours but holy rest that comes from you. God I pray over our summer as we dive into what it would be like to live fearlessly and fiercely for you. In your sons name I pray, Amen.
